Terry Manning
Home Sweet Home

This outrageously enjoyable blend of psychedelic rock, Memphis soul and dirty R & B features the recording debut of Big Star's Chris Bell and kicks off with one of the most audacious and successful Beatles covers of all time. Making it's long-overdue re-appearance here ,...

How did you get hooked up with Anthology for this reissue? Karl Ikola and Anopheles Records! Such a great person. He gets credit for a lot of this new attention. This is the second reissue, right? Are you surprised by the attention the album has received in the three decades following its release? Yeah, like an improbable attack without warning!Significant. Anopheles reissued the original LP with one bonus track in ’02 on clear vinyl. Now in ’08 again it will be reissued on black vinyl. So I guess that would be two times not counting the CD reissues. I can't keep count myself! Had Static Disposal come out in 2008 as opposed to 1976, do you think Debris’ would have faired better or worse, what with the Internet and strong global indie/underground networks? Today as in the ’70s the mainstream seems to be a carbon copy of no experimentation to sound serving without illusion. It was easier to be different in 1976. The World Wide Web has given us freedom of choice at last. I am certain Debris' would be just as distinct in 2008! Debris’ definitely had a unique sound, but you were obviously influenced by numerous bands. How did your sound develop? Oliver (Powers) and I influenced each other. Oliver had a degree in music with a reservation in his formal training to remain "unhindered.” I had no musical training but was always setting limits. We loved experimenting with sound using musical instruments with noise generated implements with or without rhythm. Oliver would use the guitar as a synthesizer. Creating incremental tones that did not fit the traditional Western music. We used tape loops and white noise created by television. I introduced Oliver to the Stooges and Roxy Music and he introduced me to Beefheart and John Cage.

We Will Return Shortly

We'd like to apologize for the lack of updates lately -- we're still here, just doing some much needed work on the site, which has been preventing us from being as active on the updating front. So, please bear with us for a little while longer - we promise to make a triumphant return with TONS of new albums very soon....

Sincerely,
AR

New stuff!!

Hey all - there's a bunch of new albums up today and a pretty wide range of sounds to choose from. Soundway's amazing Nigerian Special comp is a collection of mid-70's Nigerian artists - a must for any Afro-Beat fan. For the Power Pop fans, we have the 1975, Milk'n'Cookies record up and available now. Last but certainly not least, we have the first of a bunch of Davy Graham records to come. Arguably, his finest recording achievement, Folk, Blues & Beyond is an essential album for fans of legends like Bert Jansch & John Renbourn...even Jimmy Page has admitted to ripping him off!
